Château de Baugé
The Château de Baugé, in the Maine-et-Loire, in pre-Renaissance style, was built by René of Anjou from 1454 on the ruins of an 11th-century fortress.
A multimedia tour makes visitors guests of King René: it traces the life of this artist king, against the backdrop of great events and the Hundred Years' War, up to his recreated bedchamber and private oratory.
A short walk from the château, the Hôtel-Dieu of Baugé houses one of the finest apothecaries in France, with a collection of more than 650 jars. Its visit explores 17th-century medicine and pharmacy, and the exhibition 'Des soins du corps au soin de l'âme' traces the life of the hospital and the daily life of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
