Château du Plessis-Bourré
The château du Plessis-Bourré was rebuilt from 1468 on the foundations of a medieval fortress, the château du Plessis-le-Vent, bought in 1462 by Jean Bourré, grand treasurer and trusted man of Louis XI. The castle's construction spread over 5 years. We are lucky to admire this masterpiece almost in its initial state of 1473.
Square in shape, it is flanked by round corner towers, the tallest of which was meant as a keep. This tower, armed with machicolations adorned with subtle trefoil motifs, like those found at Langeais or Chaumont-sur-Loire, is designed as a fortified redoubt that could be isolated and lies close to Jean Bourré's lodging.
