In 1255 Alphonse of Poitiers built on a rocky spur skirted by the Auzoue one of the first Gascon bastides. Respecting the architecture of these new towns, streets and carrelots lead to the central square surrounded by arcades on three sides. Integrated into the fortifications of which a pointed gate remains, the twelfth-century Gothic church overlooks with its flat bell tower the half-timbered houses. To the north, the pre-Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre de Genens from the seventh century presents a Roman colonnade and a chi-rho carved in antique marble.
