Larressingle
The village of Larressingle lies west of Condom on the line of plateaus that separates the Osse and Baïse valleys. According to legend, this thirteenth-century fortified village is said to take its name from Gallo-Roman times when, having resisted a siege by the Roman army of Crassus, lieutenant of Caesar, it supposedly cried to its soldiers "Retro Singuli": back one by one. But another etymology would draw its roots from Latin "Cingulum", enclosure of a feudal keep, and the syllable "re", reconstruction, to become Larressingle today. In the heart of the Armagnac, as if set in the middle of vines and fields, the fortified village nicknamed "the little Carcassonne of Gascony" keeps its ramparts and moats.
