Mer de Sable

Oise, Hauts-de-France

The Mer de Sable is a family amusement park created in 1963 by the actor Jean Richard in the heart of the Ermenonville forest, in the Oise, north of Paris. It takes its name from a natural site of sand dunes: in the Tertiary era the Paris basin was covered by the sea, which left thick layers of sand that reappeared when the forest was cleared, notably by the monks of nearby Chaalis Abbey.

Its theme is the American West: a western quarter, shows with cowboys, horseback stunts and Indian attacks. The rides suit the whole family, including Monster Mountain, Mississi'Trouille and the Witches' River, with roundabouts for the youngest. There is a restaurant in the park.

In 2026 the show programme centres on 'The Legends of the Mer de Sable', with The Curse of West City and The Last Chance. In autumn, the 'Épouvantable Mer de Sable' event runs from 3 October to 1 November. The park opens in season, from April to early November.
