Mémorial de la Résistance en Vercors
Enter the fortress and plunge into the daily life of the maquis fighters. A symbolic route from shadow to light... Vassieux, "here begins the Land of Freedom": the story of the first and largest maquis in France.
Unlike a museum of objects, the Memorial uses staging, image, sound and light.
Respecting the exceptional natural surroundings, this citadel set into the mountain leaves the hollow of a combe free and intact. The camouflaged building, covered by vegetation, recalls the secrecy of the maquis.
1,200 m² recreate the atmosphere of the time through a set of codes to decipher. Everything is designed to understand and feel the hope and tragedy of those days. The Memorial welcomes 37,000 visitors a year.
