Atelier du musée de la soie
The Silk Workshop-Museum occupies a former silk-industry site at Taulignan, a village in the Drôme Provençale. It traces the entire silk-making chain, from raising silkworms to weaving, and recalls the importance of this industry in the village in the 19th century.
The visit begins with a ten-minute film in French, English and Dutch. Visitors then see authentic machines in motion: cocoon reeling, throwing and looms. Videos and panels also evoke the social life of the women who worked in the region's many silk mills.
Temporary art exhibitions accompany the permanent display. Guided tours are offered to groups by booking, and a shop sells silk goods and local products. The site suits families as well as lovers of industrial and textile heritage, and can be hired for events.
