Maison natale de François Mitterrand
The birthplace of François Mitterrand opened to the public on 8 January 2006, the tenth anniversary of the President's death. In December 2011, the Institut François Mitterrand, with the support of Jarnac town hall, became its owner. The house was entirely renovated with the help of the State, the town of Jarnac, the Poitou-Charentes region, the Charente and Charente-Maritime départements and the Institut François Mitterrand. It is listed on the inventory of historic monuments and holds the "Maison des Illustres" label. Visitors can walk through the rooms the President lived in as a child and adult and soak up the setting that marked and accompanied him.
An exhibition of previously unpublished photos and documents, set up by the Institut François Mitterrand, gives a better picture of the President's family and youth.
