Les Arcs de Saint Pierre

Lozère, Occitanie

The Arcs de Saint-Pierre are a group of remarkable natural arches in the commune of Saint-Pierre-des-Tripiers, at the south-western end of the Causse Méjean, in Lozère. They are due to erosion, which cut the rock into arches and unexpected shapes. A natural area of ecological interest of 166 hectares covers the area, and the commune lies in the core zone of the Cévennes National Park.

Nearby, you can see the ruins of a village of resin-tappers dating from Gallo-Roman times. The causse is hollowed out with dolines, and the Tarn and Jonte gorges border the commune, the latter sheltering a large population of griffon vultures. The site lends itself to a walk among the rocks, including with children, in an open causse landscape where settlement is very scattered.
