Le Signe - Centre National du Graphisme

Haute-Marne, Grand Est

Le Signe, the national centre for graphic design, is on the Place Émile-Goguenheim in Chaumont, in the Haute-Marne. Opened in 2016, it is presented as the only national centre devoted to graphic design in France. It works as an art centre for graphic design, combining exhibitions, workshops, training, creative residencies and meetings between designers and the public.

It holds and showcases Chaumont's collections of posters and graphic objects, from the bequest of Gustave Dutailly, a member of parliament and poster collector. The international poster competition, created in 1990 to make this collection known, is now run by Le Signe as part of the International Biennial of Graphic Design, which brings together designers, typographers, students and enthusiasts every two years, from May to October, for exhibitions, talks and workshops. The centre is about ten minutes' walk from Chaumont station.
