Le Canal Entre Champagne et Bourgogne
The Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne crosses the Haute-Marne. It can be enjoyed from several angles: the water, on which you glide; the air, home to birds such as the kingfisher and the heron; the land, with local produce rich in truffles, Langres cheese, snails and wines from Champagne, Burgundy and the Haute-Marne; and fire, with the art of iron casting, a living tradition here. Nearby, the fortified town of Langres and the Château de Joinville are worth a detour.
The canal can be explored by hiring a cruiser for a few days, on a cruise of a few hours from the port of La Maladière in Chaumont, or by bike along the towpath, in peaceful surroundings. Events and excursions are organised every year, and local produce markets are held at the locks in season.
