Le Riou de la Bollène (Marmites)

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Riou de la Bollène flows down in the Vésubie valley, near La Bollène-Vésubie, on the Col de Turini road. Its giant's kettles (marmites) are pools carved into the rock by water, hence their name evoking large pots. A waterfall turns there into a natural slide of about fifteen metres, which drops into a basin of green water.

The site is popular for river swimming. It is reached from the village by following the Col de Turini road, beyond the Saint-Honorat chapel, then by a hiking trail called "Les trois marmites". The valley is also known to canyoning enthusiasts: the descent of the Riou de la Bollène, about 2 km with 200 metres of drop, includes abseils and pools, and generally takes a few hours. You should find out about the torrent's conditions before any swim.
