Le Fort de Condé
A fine example of late 19th-century military architecture, the Fort de Condé, or Fort Pille, in the Aisne, is a historic monument belonging to the defence system devised by General Séré de Rivières after the defeat of 1870. It belongs to the tradition of French fortification from Vauban to Maginot.
Built between 1874 and 1885 on the heights above the confluence of the Aisne and Vesle valleys, it covers five hectares and could hold 650 men: soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers.
