La Vallée-aux-Loups

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France

In 1807 Chateaubriand bought the Vallée-aux-Loups, at Châtenay-Malabry in the Hauts-de-Seine. He stayed here for ten years, transforming the house and the existing orchard into a park where he planted rare species that reminded him of his travels.

Dominated by tall chestnuts, oaks and hornbeams, the park offers varied atmospheres among its coppices and woods interspersed with large clearings. Close to the Maison de Chateaubriand, the arboretum, now protected as a picturesque site, has a unique collection of more than 500 species of trees and shrubs spread over 13.5 hectares.
