La grande plage d’Hendaye
Hendaye's Grande Plage, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, stretches along the town's seafront, at the extreme south-west of the Basque coast, very close to the Spanish border. With the Deux Jumeaux beach, to the east, it forms about 2,500 metres of shoreline; the Grande Plage occupies the west part, on the breakwater side.
It is a fine-sand beach, supervised from mid-May to early November, labelled Handiplage: an access mat for people with reduced mobility is installed in front of the Hôtel Lafon, and a Tiralo is available. It suits families well.
The town also offers a second body of water, the Bay of Txingudi, suited to water activities. Nearby, you can discover the Belle Époque seafront, the Château d'Abbadia, which overlooks the bay, and the Île des Faisans, linked to the Treaty of the Pyrenees.
