La Falaise aux Vautours
Nestled in the Ossau valley, 30 km from Pau, the village of Aste-Béon lies at the foot of a nature reserve home to the main colony of vultures in France. For years, the villagers lived alongside their raptor neighbours without thinking of their tourist appeal. Then, in the early 1990s, a few enthusiasts realised the potential of this strange neighbourhood.
In 1993, the Vulture House already welcomed 32,000 visitors.
