L'Aiguille du Midi
The Aiguille du Midi is a summit in Haute-Savoie, in the Mont Blanc massif, above Chamonix. It peaks at 3,842 metres, and is the highest of the Chamonix needles. A tower, which carries telecommunication antennas, marks the high point. The Aiguille du Midi cable car, from Chamonix, serves it, with an upper station at 3,777 metres.
The viewing area, partly carved into the rock, offers a panorama over Mont Blanc. The needle is also the starting point of the Vallée Blanche descent and of the Panoramic Mont-Blanc gondola, which crosses the Géant glacier to the Pointe Helbronner. Bring warm clothes, as it is cold at altitude.
