Lapiaz du désert de Platé
The Désert de Platé is a unique place where you find the largest area of limestone pavement (lapiaz) in the Alps. Lapiaz, or lapié in the Jura: rocks characteristic of karst relief.
Lapiaz are those white, smooth limestone rocks found in certain regions. They form kinds of fields that often outcrop at ground level and are covered with an abundant variety of small flowers. They serve as refuges for marmots in winter.
The problem is that among these lapiaz fields there are crevasses and even chasms that are deadly traps when covered with snow.
