Jardin Botanique de Strasbourg
The botanical garden of the University of Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin, was founded in 1619 within the city's former Protestant Academy, which became the University of Strasbourg two years later. It was created by professors of the faculty of medicine to train their students.
Originally in the Krutenau district, it moved to the heart of the historic German campus, beyond the Palais Universitaire, after the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine in 1871. It is the second oldest botanical garden in France, after that of Montpellier, created in 1593.
