Guérande

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire

Guérande is a commune in western France, in the Loire-Atlantique (Pays de la Loire region). A Town of Art and History since 2004, it is renowned for its salt marshes and its medieval town. It is one of the few French towns to have kept its ramparts in full, 1,434 metres around.

It was an important place in the history of the Duchy of Brittany and, historically, the main town of the Guérande peninsula, which coincides with the southernmost extent of the Breton language. Guérande is one of the 21 communes of the Brière Regional Nature Park.
