Château de Pornic
The castle of Pornic, on the estuary and the ocean, is known as Bluebeard's castle. It belonged in the 15th century to Gilles de Rais, companion of Joan of Arc; after his trial, the Duke of Brittany had it confiscated.
Built on a defensive site, the castle was once washed by water on two sides. Today it overlooks the port and beach of Pornic, on the Côte de Jade, in the Loire-Atlantique. It is private property. Sources differ on whether it can be visited: some mention occasional guided tours, such as a children's tour in 2026 on medieval life and the Bluebeard legend. It is best to check with the Pornic tourist office.
