Grottes de Cougnac
About 50,000 years ago the entrance porch of the Cougnac caves was occupied by Neanderthal man. The second cave was discovered by Cro-Magnon man, who painted mammoths, megaloceros, ibex at the back of the cave, on the walls. He also painted figures part human, part animal. They used: clay, charcoal, crushed stones and, for light, fat lamps.
