Grotte de bellevue

Lot, Occitanie

The Bellevue cave is in the Célé valley, about two kilometres from Marcilhac-sur-Célé, in the Lot. Discovered in 1964 and opened to the public from 1966, it is a cavity of modest size, about 250 metres long, but renowned for the richness and abundance of its concretions.

You can see stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, columns and a large calcite flow. Some stalagmites, thin and elongated, recall candles. The Hercules column, one of the most remarkable pieces, is about four metres high with a circumference of three and a half metres. The visit is made with a guide, in a setting of typical Quercy causse, not far from Cajarc.
