Grotte de Rouffignac

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Rouffignac cave is in the heart of the Black Périgord. This cavity was successively inhabited by cave bears and prehistoric artists. The former left claw marks and "nests" in the clay. The prehistoric artists, for their part, left us many animal depictions more than 130 centuries ago. The most present at Rouffignac remains the mammoth, which explains the name "cave of a hundred mammoths". This underground labyrinth contains more than 250 depictions of animals dating from 130 centuries ago.
