Grotte de la Devèze

Hérault, Occitanie

This cave was discovered in 1886, during the building of the Bédarieux–Castres railway line, when the mountain had to be pierced. It lies below the Courniou station. The fineness of its concretions earned it the name Palace of the Glass Spinner. 35 m below ground, the diversity of the dolomitic limestones crossed explains the diversity of concretions, including very fine aragonite crystals grouped into stone flowers.
