Gorges de la Jonte
The Jonte gorges cut the limestone between the Causse Méjean and the Causse Noir, before the river joins the Tarn at Le Rozier, on the boundary of the Lozère and the Aveyron. Their steep cliffs are prized by climbers and shelter one of the colonies of griffon vultures reintroduced to the Grands Causses since the 1980s.
The road that runs along the bottom of the gorges, between meadows and vertical walls, offers one of the most spectacular landscapes of the region. The site is part of the territory of the Causses and Cévennes, inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage.
