Grotte et cascade de Deroc

Lozère, Occitanie

The Déroc waterfall is in the commune of Nasbinals, in Lozère, on the Aubrac plateau, at about 1,200 metres' altitude. Fed by the Salhiens stream, it throws itself in a single leap of about thirty metres from the top of a basalt cliff. This is formed of two superimposed old lava flows, which draw something like a great natural staircase, and results from a fracture linked to the uplift of the Aubrac.

Behind the curtain of water opens a small cave whose ceiling is made up of basalt prisms, the organ pipes. It is one of the most remarkable natural sites of the Aubrac. A path leaves the lakes road, the D52, to the top of the cliff; the site is not made safe and the risk of falling is real. A rough path, which goes round the cliff on the left, allows you to reach the foot of the fall.
