La cascade de Rûnes

Lozère, Occitanie

The Rûnes waterfall throws itself down the slope of Mont Lozère, at the entrance of the hamlet of Rûnes, in the Pont-de-Montvert area, in the heart of the Cévennes National Park. The stream, which rises in the granite rocks of the massif before joining the Tarn, tumbles in two successive falls. The first, about forty-six metres, plunges into a deep chasm; the second measures about twenty metres.

Sources give a total height between 58 and 70 metres. A steep, well-equipped path runs along the stream from the car park at the entrance to the village and leads to the viewpoints. The climb takes about forty minutes' walk. The site, surrounded by granite and forests, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Lozère.
