Espace zoologique de La Boissière-du-Doré
The Espace zoologique de La Boissière-du-Doré is a private zoo founded in 1984 by Dany and Monique Laurent, in the Loire-Atlantique, on the border with the Maine-et-Loire. Their son Sébastien Laurent has run it since 2008.
In a wooded setting, it presents more than 120 species from five continents: reptiles, birds, monkeys, ostriches and zebras, from the African plains to the Amazon forest. Giraffes, gorillas and orang-utans are among its best-known residents. The zoo aims to be family-friendly and educational, raising awareness of the place of animals on the planet.
