Entrevaux
Entrevaux is a fortified town of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on the banks of the Var, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and Village et Cité de caractère. You enter it by a drawbridge that crosses the river and passes through the ramparts. The town is dominated by its citadel, perched on a rocky spur, linked to the village by a zigzag wall-walk defended by several gates.
Houses squeezed between the walls, the former cathedral and the narrow lanes make a visit of several hours worthwhile. Entrevaux is also a stop on the Train des Pignes, the railway line of Provence between Nice and Digne-les-Bains, which offers an original way of getting there.
