Donjon de Vez
The Donjon de Vez is the usual name for the castle of Vez, a former 14th-century fortress in the Oise. The keep itself was built between 1390 and 1410 by Jean de Vez, probably with his brother-in-law Robert de Saint-Clair. Chamberlain to Louis d'Orléans, Jean de Vez called on an architect from the royal or ducal circle, probably Jean Lenoir.
The pentagonal keep dominates the site. It is presented as an imposing medieval fortress whose origins are said to go back to Gallo-Roman times, and as the capital of the Valois for five centuries. Its present owners combine architecture, nature and contemporary art, giving the place a singular atmosphere, near Villers-Cotterêts.
