Dolmen naturel de Chevresse
The Chevresse dolmen is a natural rock heap in the Breuil-Chenue forest, in the commune of Saint-Brisson, in the Nièvre, within the Morvan Regional Nature Park, at about 595 metres' altitude.
Contrary to what its name suggests, it is not a true megalithic monument: it is a granite chaos that erosion has sculpted over millennia, hence the term pseudo-dolmen. Some sources evoke ancient pagan rites attached to this place.
You get there on foot from Saint-Brisson, by a mostly wooded route that runs along the Vignan river; a hiking loop of about 10 km passes through the site. The Breuil-Chenue forest also housed a granite quarry whose stone was used for local buildings, including the Settons dam.
