Le Saut de Gouloux

Nièvre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Saut de Gouloux is a waterfall about ten metres high, in the commune of Gouloux, in the Morvan (Nièvre). The water comes from the Bridier, which joins the Cure just after the fall. The site is surrounded by a broadleaf forest.

The place has a history linked to human activity: a water mill operated there between 1804 and 1920, the ruins of which can still be seen, and the river was used for floating timber, which came down from the Morvan to Paris by the Cure and the Yonne. The waterfall is beside the RD 977 bis, between the Settons dam and the Maison du parc naturel régional du Morvan, with a small roadside car park. A few hundred metres downstream, on the Cure, the Saut de la Truite attracts white-water sports enthusiasts.
