Château du Bouilh

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The château du Bouilh is at Saint-André-de-Cubzac, in the Gironde. It consists of a group of buildings: a pavilion of honour and outbuildings, arranged in a semicircle, dating from the eighteenth century. It was built by the architect Victor Louis, who worked on it from late 1786 to August 1789, commissioned by the Marquis de la Tour du Pin, to welcome Louis XVI.

Its construction could not be completed because of the advent of the Revolution. Former home of Lamartine and also of Mac Mahon, the castle has fine rooms. It is listed as a historic monument, and its wine stores and park can be visited. It lies at the gates of the Libournais and Blayais regions.
