Château des Rochers-Sévigné

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne

The Château des Rochers-Sévigné is about six kilometres from Vitré, in Ille-et-Vilaine. This fifteenth-century Gothic manor, which became the property of the Sévigné family, was a residence of the Marquise de Sévigné, who stayed there and wrote many letters.

The formal garden, designed at the end of the seventeenth century and attributed to André Le Nôtre, consists of parterres where Madame de Sévigné loved to walk; she had given a name to each of the alleys.

From early April to late September, the château and its museum are visited with a guide. The garden is freely accessible during opening hours, and the garden and park are accessible to people with reduced mobility.
