Château de Bonne Fontaine

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne

A large lodging restored in 1547. The south tower, called the "Tour de Porçon", was built by Duchess Anne's chamberlain. The château de Bonne Fontaine served, at the time of the League, as an entrenchment for Mercœur's troops. Major alterations in the late nineteenth century made it one of the finest Breton Renaissance-style castles of the region. Equally remarkable is the English-style park that surrounds it, attributed to the great landscape gardener André.
