Château de Veauce

Allier, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Château de Veauce stands on a rocky spur above the village of Veauce, near Gannat, in the Allier. This medieval fortress, protected as a historic monument, keeps five towers and part of its old appearance, surrounded by woods.

A private property, the château is supported by a preservation association that has organised visits. Sources disagree on current access: some say the exterior can be visited, others report that the building is at risk, needs major work and has been subject to orders closing it to the public. It is therefore wise to check with the association or the town hall before going.

In the village, the Church of Sainte-Croix is the other notable heritage site and can complete the visit.
