Château de Montgilbert
The castle of Montgilbert is a medieval castle in the commune of Ferrières-sur-Sichon, in the Allier, in the heart of the Montagne Bourbonnaise. Built in the 12th century, it held a key position over the area. Its first known occupant was the lord of Montaigu-le-Blin, sire of Le Breuil, near Châtel-Montagne.
Now in ruins, the castle is the subject of many restoration projects, and the whole of the original building is still clearly visible, with its walls and towers. Perched on a wooded spur, the site appeals for its atmosphere and the surrounding landscapes of the Montagne Bourbonnaise, and combines well with a walk in the area.
