Château de Thoury

Allier, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Château de Thoury, in the Allier, is a very pretty fortified castle of the 12th and 14th centuries that played an important part in the Hundred Years' War, withstanding sieges against the English. It also went through the Wars of Religion.

Surrounded by a park, this stronghold presents a harmonious silhouette in the Bourbonnais countryside. High curtain walls link the two wings and the entrance gate, reached by a bridge over the moats and fitted with machicolations and two pepper-pot turrets.
