Château de Vascoeuil
The Château de Vascœuil, in the Eure, is a centre for art and history housed in a building registered as a historic monument. Its owners acquired the estate in 1965, restored it and opened the centre in 1970; an association runs it today.
The site is linked to the historian Jules Michelet, who often stayed here and worked in a 12th-century octagonal tower, since rebuilt; a museum is devoted to him.
Every year, from spring to autumn, three temporary exhibitions present modern and contemporary artists. The park and the French formal garden hold a permanent collection of more than fifty sculptures by 20th-century artists. A 17th-century dovecote completes the site. The château holds the Maisons des Illustres and Destination of Excellence labels. Groups can visit by appointment.
