Château de Valmirande

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie

The Château de Valmirande, in the Haute-Garonne, built by Baron Bertrand de Lassus, is an entirely new creation of the late 19th century. In 1892 he acquired ten adjoining plots covering about 41 hectares to build the château surrounded by a landscaped park. The château was designed by Louis Garros, an architect from Bordeaux.

For the park he called on the Bühler brothers, creators of the Parc de la Tête d'Or in Lyon, the Parc Borély in Marseille, Talleyrand's estate at Valençay and the Parc Bordelais, among others. It has more than 180 species of trees and shrubs. In 1912 the landscape architect Édouard André added two parterres, north and south of the château, from which there is a view of the Pyrenees beyond the Neste valley and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges.
