Château de Reynerie

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie

The perspectives and symmetrical plantings of the Reynerie park, in Toulouse, make it a perfect illustration of the formal gardens of the late 18th century. It holds more than 200 plant species over three hectares. Tall hedges of box and exotic species line the paths, and the main pool is surrounded by hornbeams and groves of palms, tulip trees and giant sequoias. The undergrowth is brightened by rhododendrons and the park is dotted with flower beds.

A Jardin remarquable, the park bears witness to the history of 18th-century private gardens. Owned by Guillaume du Barry, it was created in 1790 at the same time as the Louis XVI-style château. In 1978 the city of Toulouse bought and restored it, creating a place of great heritage value.
