Château de Tarascon
The château de Tarascon, built on the banks of the Rhône, is an imposing sentinel, whose enormous keep rises to 48 metres. It is bordered by moats to the south and east, and the north wall of the "lower court" replaces part of the ramparts destroyed at the end of the eighteenth century. The floors present rooms of all sizes, some of which have magnificent coffered ceilings in excellent condition, or remarkable rib vaults. The rooms bear inscriptions that will let you identify them clearly. One may, however, regret the absence of furniture that would complete the very strong impression you feel.
You then reach the castle's immense terrace that overlooks an exceptional panorama. You will admire just across the Rhône the fortress of Beaucaire and, to the south, you will make out Arles and Montmajour abbey. In fine weather, you will even manage to glimpse Mont Ventoux, to the east.
