Château de Barbentane

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The residence of the Marquises of Barbentane, this 'Petit Trianon du Soleil' was built from 1674 by the architect Louis-François de la Valfenière and only completed in its present form at the end of the 18th century.

The château is surrounded by Italian-style terraces with sculpted decoration, overlooking a park planted with three-hundred-year-old plane trees. Considered 'the most Italian château in Provence', it came through the Revolution unscathed. It is still lived in by the Marquis de Barbentane, who works to ensure its future.
