Château de Sagonne
The Château de Sagonne, in the Cher, stands on the Jacques Cœur route, in a village of character. It was home to the Counts of Sancerre, the d'Amboise family, then Gabrielle d'Estrées and Jules Hardouin-Mansart, architect of the Palace of Versailles. A curtain wall and moats separate it from a medieval village.
The huge keep houses a chapel and two bedrooms with painted decoration, and weapons and mementoes of its residents are displayed. The ruins are among the commune's three buildings protected as historic monuments. The visit combines well with the rest of the Jacques Cœur route, which links several fine houses in the area.
