Château de la Verrerie

Cher, Centre-Val de Loire

The Château de la Verrerie, at Oizon in the Cher, is a Renaissance château. It was not built before the end of the 15th century: Béraud Stuart, grandson of John Stuart, on his return from the Italian campaign, had the main building put up as an extension of the chapel. It joins the Renaissance gallery built in 1525 by Robert Stuart.

The estate is famous for its link with the Stuart d'Aubigny family, who came from Scotland, and for its décor recalling the Italian Renaissance. It lies in the Berry Sologne, beside a lake, on the Jacques Cœur route. The visit covers the interiors, the chapel and the park, in a setting of forests and water.
