château de Pomayrols
The castle of Pomayrols, in the Aveyron, may date back to the 10th century, when many fortifications were built. Its existence is attested in 1261, in the marriage contract of Guillemette, sister of Pons de Cayrodes.
According to research by Aymar de Jabrun of Marvejols, its owner in the early 19th century, major rebuilding was undertaken in the 13th century, involving the workers' guild of the Aubrac domerie. Further important works were carried out in the 14th century; the first Chipole bridge was built in 1329 to bring in materials. The castle is thus the result of successive medieval alterations and extensions, the last of which date from 1446.
