Château de Janzé

Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The château de Janzé is in the commune of Marcilly-d'Azergues, in the Rhône département, north-west of Lyon, on the slope of a valley overlooking the Azergues valley. Its primary purpose was to guard the north of Lyon. The foundations of the property date from the thirteenth century, the present castle and outbuildings from the seventeenth.

In the early eighteenth century, alterations were made and the property was enlarged, successively including the Pitrat (1774), Bouvet (1776) and Bottières (1780) estates. The park of the château de Janzé adorns and surrounds this 70-ha property.
