Château de Fléville
The Château de Fléville, at Fléville-devant-Nancy in the Meurthe-et-Moselle, is ten minutes from Nancy. The present château dates from 1533: in early French Renaissance style, it backs onto a great feudal keep of 1320. It is also one of the few Lorraine châteaux spared by Richelieu, on Louis XIII's orders, at the end of the Thirty Years' War.
It contains treasures such as the hall of the coats of arms of the Dukes of Lorraine, Stanisław's bedroom and a suite of intimate rooms. The château stands in an exceptional setting, with a French formal garden, and the visit is a good introduction to Renaissance architecture in Lorraine.
