Château de Durfort
The castle of Durfort, south of Lagrasse in the Aude, is private property that can only be admired from afar, in the wild landscapes of the Corbières.
It first appears in texts at the end of the 11th century; its lords were vassals of the Counts of Carcassonne. During the Albigensian Crusade the lord of Durfort sided with the Cathars; after many twists, the castle returned to its original owners. In the 17th century, after the Peace of the Pyrenees, it lost its strategic importance and was made more comfortable. It was finally abandoned in the 18th century.
